MARTIN WEST conducting THE SAN FRANCISCO BALLET ORCHESTRA |
MOSZKOWSKI: From Foreign Lands - Rediscovered orcheatral works RR-138 [HDCD]
Moritz Moszkowski (1854-1925) is most known for his scintillating piano compositions. he also composed an opera, a full-length ballet, three orchestral suites, a symphony (still in manuscript form), songs, concertos, and chamber music — almost all of which remain neglected or forgotten. How unfortunate!
BIZET: Symphony in C, Jeux d"Enfants, Variations chromatique RR-131 [HDCD]
Symphony in C is a delightful gem Composed in 1855, it was produced as a ballet choreographed by George Balanchine, and premiered at the San Francisco Ballet in 1961. Jeux d'Enfants is filled with youthful wonder, and fanciful, charming, memorable tunes. Variations chromatiques is a dramatic work recorded only once before, by the Louisville Orchestra in 1973. This is the first modern recording and the first time this work is available on compact disc.
DELIBES: Sylvia & Coppélia - Extended Suites from the Ballets RR-125 [HDCD]
Leo Delibes' Coppélia is pure delight, a feast of musicality and humor for all ages. Probably the greatest ballet comedy ever written! On this disc we also present Delibes' Sylvia, a romance filled with sighs of longing and the thrill of infatuation. Set in antiquity, the ballet literally places love on a pedestal in the person of the Greek god Eros.
