MIROIRS & GASPARD DE LA NUIT PATRICK O'BYRNE SFR 357.4049.2 Hybrid Stereo SACD Born in Ireland, Patrick O'Byrne spent his childhood in New Zealand, receiving his musical education there. Following piano studies at the University of Auckland he was awarded a scholarship by the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council of New Zealand to continue studies in Europe. His teachers in London and Paris included Kendall Taylor and Vlado Perlemuter. A DAAD bursary then took him to the Hochschule fur Musik in Freiburg, Germany. Having won all the major piano competitions in New Zealand Patrick O'Byrne carried these achievements into the international field with prizes in Tokyo, Spain and England. At the Jose Iturbi International Piano Competition in 1983 he was winner of the first prize by unanimous consent of the jury. From 1985 Patrick O'Byrne held a professorship at the Hochschule fuer Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart and was Vice Chancellor of this University until his appointment in 2002 to the Senior Chair for advanced piano studies at the University of the Arts in Bremen. Over and above his regular teaching he has held master classes in many countries and adjudicated at various international piano competitions.
