Appalachian Spring is Copland's mosy beloved scroe dance score, and is indelibly associated with Marht Graham, who gave it birth. It sings of earlier Amercan's whose lives were tied to the land, and it features the timless folksong "Simple Gifts". The Third Symphony is considered to be Copland's masterpiece, and the finest symphony produced by any 20th century American. Its finale brings back the Fanfare, scored for full symphony orchestra, to bring the program to a spine-tingling climax. Eiji Oue has a direct link with Copland, being a protégé of Leonard Bernstein, the conductor most closley associated with Copland's music. Oue and the Minnesota Orchestra have performed these pieces in concert many times recently, to standing ovations and rave reviews.
