The Turtle Creek Chorale Timothy Seelig, conductor RR-110CD [HDCD] SERENADE: The word brings to mind the image of a young swain, standing at nighttime below his true love's window, passionately wooing his beloved with romantic song. Today, a serenade need not be a romantic ballad. Whether played by a small ensemble or sung by a large chorus, a serenade is simply beautiful, reflective music. Yet there is still something charming in the image of a love-struck balladeer singing to win his beloved's heart. In this vein, America's premier male chorus offers a wide variety of music, sung from a distance, but all with one goal in mind: to move, and to win, the listener's heart. Included are selections by some of today's most popular living composers, such as Morten Lauridsen, John Rutter, Eric Whitacre and Stephen Paulus; and beloved classics by Schubert, Brahms and Caccini. A particular highlight is Nella Fantasia by Ennio Morricone, adapted from his film score The Mission. All are delivered with loving kindness, passion and precision, many accompanied by an ensemble of strings and oboe. The HDCD recording was made by Prof. Keith Johnson in the superb, spacious acoustics of the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas, venue of all the critically-acclaimed Chorale recordings on Reference Recordings, and many by the Dallas Wind Symphony. Musically and sonically, SERENADE is destined to become one of Reference Recording's most admired productions. The Turtle Creek Chorale is currently celebrating its 27th anniversary year. With over 200 singing members, the Chorale performs annually to audiences in excess of 50,000. The Chorale has toured Europe to packed houses in Barcelona, Berlin and Prague, and has played Carnegie Hall twice. Its Reference Recordings recording of John Rutter's Requiem hit the top ten on the Billboard Classical Chart. Dr. Timothy Seelig, now Conductor Emeritus, is recognized as one of America's pre-eminent figures in choral music.
