Goves explains that Things that are blue, things that are white and things that are black is my notion of a romantic piano concerto seen through the twisted lens of Paul Auster's surreal gumshoe landscape ('The New York Trilogy'). Written for Sarah Nicolls it is scored for solo piano, electric piano (triggering pre-prepared samples), prepared piano, at least 16 violins, various wind instruments, electronic sounds and live processing. Terminus Wreck is a solo cello piece written for Goves's long-time collaborator Oliver Coates and Trends in personal relationships, performed by London Sinfonietta under Martyn Brabbins, is a response to modern life, relationships and internet dating.
