• Debut Discs is a 4-year series in collaboration with BA (Hons) Graphic Design students at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design who have designed the cover artwork for the series.

• Debut Discs has the ambassadorial support of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.

• 5 releases in the series feature the composers Huw Watkins, Dai Fujikura, Sam Hayden, Richard Causton and Joseph Phibbs and still to come this year are Helen Grime, Charlotte Bray and Ben Foskett.

This survey of Ben Foskett's work spans 10 years, from the brooding Five Night Pieces for piano (2002) to Cinq Chansons a Hurle-Vent - a deceptively simple setting of poems by French writer Laure Salama, written from the point of view of characters in Wuthering Heights, for soprano and saxophone.   Between these come the orchestral From Trumpet, built up from a single rhythmic cell; elegaic On from Four, commissioned for Manchester ensemble Psappha for the 400th anniversary of Hatfield House; Hornet II, a virtuoso showpiece for clarinettist Mark van de Wiel and London Sinfonietta and Dinosaur for solo flute.

Foskett studied with Edwin Roxburgh and Simon Bainbridge at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music respectively.   He has been supported by grants from the RVW and the Leverhulme Trusts.

His piece Es gibt einige hohe Wellen was premiered by the London Sinfonietta in 2002 leading to the commissioning of his Violin Concerto for Clio Gould, premiered in 2004 and later released on CD, conducted by Oliver Knussen.   In 2004 his solo clarinet piece Hornet was reworked for clarinet and ensemble for Mark van de Wiel and the London Sinfonietta.

In 2009 From Trumpet was commissioned by the BBC Proms for the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Susanna Mälkki.   In 2012 the CBSO Youth Orchestra commissioned and performed Leckey conducted by Jac van Steen at Symphony Hall.
