Fidelio Trio
BULB
Darragh Morgan, violin Robin Michael, cello
Mary Dullea, piano
NMC D147
The Fidelio Trio is made up of three brilliant young soloists in their own right
(Darragh Morgan, Robin Michael and Mary Dullea). They all have a special
enthusiasm for contemporary music and here they bring the medium of piano
trio back to life and straight into the twenty-first century with these four works,
three of which were specially written for the ensemble.
The music on this disc is devoted to composers born and/or working in Ireland
and demonstrates the diverse musical talents emerging from the island: from
the classical minimalism of Kevin Volans, to the lyrical writing of Deirdre
Gribbin, through experimental electronics from Ed Bennett to the urban,
aggressive energy of Donnacha Dennehy.
Kevin Volans’ recordings with the Kronos Quartet are still the best-ever selling
string quartet CDs in history.
Fidelio Trio has released a Pop Archive disc including music by Led Zeppelin
and Miles Davies.
Donnacha Dennehy’s disc Elastic Harmonic (released in June 2007) was
NMC’s fifth best-selling title of 2007.
1. Donnacha Dennehy: Bulb 11'12
2. Ed Bennett: for Marcel Dzama 12'07
3. Deidre Gribbin: How to Make the Water Sound 12'59
4. - 5. Kevin Volans: Piano Trio 23'31
Total Time - 59'49
