What a Wonderful Trio!
Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio
FIM DXD 079
A 99.9999% Silver Disc
I started distributing Three Blind Mice (TBM) LPs in Hong Kong in the late 70s. If you have any of the TBM LPs, you will agree that the dynamics and sound definition make this label unique.
In the TBM catalog, I love best the albums done by the Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio. This young, self-learned, jazz pianist's talent is dazzlingly good. From my limited exposure, I believe no one can come close to his performance exemplified on albums such as Midnight Sugar, Misty, and Girls' Talk. His performance has captivated me so much that I
vowed to record him if I was privileged with an opportunity to do so.
For many years I have been exploring the possibility of realizing my dream. Finally, in 2001, I clicked with Tsuyoshi through the help of Takeshi Tee Fujii, President of TBM. A recording session was scheduled for January 23 at Onkio Haus Studios, Tokyo. I remember vividly the moment when I met Tsuyoshi for the first time. He offered me a very pleasant
surprise: a song he had newly written as a gift to me! He played the melody and asked me to name it. The song was so beautiful, though with a slight hint of melancholy, that it kindled in my imagination an image of the city of Seattle in autumn: hence, the birth of Autumn in Seattle, which has become one of the most popular albums in our catalog.
Seven years have flown by since that first session. At my repeated requested,Tsuyoshi has gracefully agreed to do another album. Again, Tee helped coordinate the staging of the recording session - in the same studio, using the same renowned recording engineer, Kannan.
This time, Tsuyoshi wrote three new songs for the recording! Right from the start, his artistry captivated me again - only at an even higher level than previously! The musicians were so in-sync with each other, the mood was so agreeable, and the dynamics and rhythms were so profoundly harmonized that everyone in the control room was energized with the beat and magnetized with the tunes. Several times I heard members of the working team express their awe with the phrase, What a wonderful trio! I thought here is the title of the album, this remark which so aptly portrays the performance we witnessed.
Like our other recent releases, we use 99.9999% silver foil disc, which betters aluminum foil in sound quality by a significant margin.
Have a wonderful time with this wonderful trio!
Warm regards,
Winston Ma
