A PERCUSSION GENIUS
Who can arrange and conduct - with the use of only percussion instruments - an opera, a symphony, a piano concerto, or in concert with an instrumentalist, a jazz group or a singer?
No one could dispute that only the percussion genius of the century, Maestro Harold Farberman, can aptly do all these, and indeed at the highest level of excellence.
Harold has written many compositions, including two award-winning operas, as well as other symphonic recordings. It should also be mentioned that he is a university professor of conducting.
I have known Harold for over two decades, and have been working with him in producing this first album, which marks the commencement of a series of brilliantly hued percussion recordings by the Maestro.
This first album of the series was originally produced by the former MMG, a division of Essex Entertainment Inc., USA, and was licensed by Golden String & Co.
Harold rallied ten head percussionists from seven famous orchestras in the USA, many of whom were his students. These ten players handled a total of some 60 to 80 instruments, varying from piece to piece. Hence, if you have a high resolution audio system, you can hear the slight noises of the players' footsteps as they run from one instrument to another, maintaining synchronicity with Harold's wonderful arrangements.
The sonority of this recording is such that it has become a standard demonstration disc showcasing percussion magnificence.
I shall try to re-master as many of Harold's recordings as possible in the months to come, using the latest digital technology, DXD, so that the level of sonority can be raised to a significantly higher level yet for your enjoyment.
Now sit back and listen to the nuances of the individual instruments on this debut album, to their stunning imaging and definition.
Enjoy!
