This astonishing masterpiece, arguably the greatest of all of Bach's Preludes and Fugues, is the ne plus ultra of the Northern German compositional style. One cannot help but wonder what Buxtehude or Bruns would have thought had they lived to hear this incredible composition. The "Great" E Minor Prelude and Fugue has come down to us in a fair copy written out by Bach and his pupil Johann Peter Kellner, who took over after the first twenty measures of the Fugue. …
