Dorian RecordingsDOR-90150J.S. BACH VOLUME 3. JEAN GUILLOU, ORGAN Recorded at the Kleuker-Steinmeyer organ of the Tonhalle, Zürich. Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565 Long thought to have been written while Bach was organist in Arnstadt between 1703 and 1707, the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565 is undoubtedly the most famous of all of his compositions for the organ. Prelude and Fugue in B Minor, BWV 544 Without question, the Prelude and Fugue in B Minor, BWV 544 is one of Bach's greatest acheivements. On his fair copy, which he could have written out no earlier than 1727 and no later than 1740, he titled his mature masterpiece "Praeludium pro Organo cum pedal obligato". Complex and intense, laden with chromaticism and sinuous lines, the Prelude is laid out in the manner of a Baroque concerto movement with an opening and concluding ritornello, snippets of which can be heard as a refrain throughout the Prelude. - Teri Noel Towe
