MENDELSSOHN
PIANO TRIO NO.1 IN D MINOR, OP. 49

SCHUBERT
PIANO TRIO NO. 1 IN B-FLAT MAJOR, D898

THE REMBRANDT TRIO

DOR-90130 Cover - 20285 BYtes When Schubert died at the age of thirty-one, he left one of the greatest legacies of major works in the history of music.   Yet, as incredible as it may seem, this enormously talented man had little success in his own lifetime.   In spite of Schubert's lack of recognition during his own time, his death was followed by a triumphant rise to fame unprecedented in the annals of music.

Like Schubert, Mendelssohn started to compose early, easily and prolifically.   He also died young, outliving Schubert by only seven years.   But here the similarities end.   While Schubert went through his life in virtually total obscurity, Mendelssohn enjoyed great popularity as a composer, conductor and performer.   Furthermore, while recognition and appreciation of Schubert's music rapidly grew after his death, Mendelssohn's faded from the limelight rather quickly.
