Choosing a program for a recording should be governed by a different set of rules than those which apply to the selection of pieces for a concert. Occaisionally, at least, a performer also should be permitted to disregard the record dealer's preference for displaying his merchandise in alphabetical order by composer's name, offering instead a miscellaneous assortment of pieces in no particulary rational order, picked purely for the pleasure of listening and playing.
