Leonhart's witty, wry humor is presented on "Salamander Pie" in a collection of poetic vocals accompanied by his rich, warm acoustic bass and Mike Renzi on piano.

This original 1983 recording was made direct to a Mitsubishi X-80 2 track digital recorder at a sampling frequency of 50.4kHz.   Transfer to DSD was made using the original session master tape played on a Mitsubishi recorder connected directly to an EMM Labs DSD A to D converter feeding a Sony DSD recorder.   No EQ or processing whatsoever was used in transfer.   What you hear in this newly re-mastered SACD is the original master tape as it is.   The Red Book layer (16 bit, 44.1kHz) was down converted from the DSD master using the Sony SBM Direct processor.   Much of the increased resolution is retained with this technique.

Super Audio CD
It looks like a CD and it plays in all existing CD players, but this hybrid Super Audio CD (SACD) is much, much more.   Created by Sony and Philips - the people who invented CD - this is actually a two layered disc.
First is a reflective CD layer that assures backward compatibility with nearly 600 million CD players worldwide.
Second is a semi-transmissive high-density layer, which can be read by a new generation of Super Audio CD players.
It represents a new, altogether different way to produce music.   An even better CD.
