VARIOUS CHESKY RECORDS ARTISTS [JD320] SPECIAL ARCHIVAL RELEASE FROM CHESKY RECORDS Chesky Records is pleased to announce the release of Live From Studio A, a compilation boasting classic tracks recorded in the legendary RCA studio by some of the most recognizable names in jazz. Live From Studio A offers the best catalog cuts from younger innovators like Ana Caram and John Pizzarelli alongside a treasure trove of stellar work from established artists like Peggy Lee, McCoy Tyner, Bucky Pizzarelli, Clark Terry, Paquito D'Rivera and more. Live From Studio A offers a look back at Chesky's 20-year history as heard through its extensive archive of spectacular jazz recordings. The set kicks off with a selection from Johnny Frigo with Bucky Pizzarelli and John Pizzarelli - the first jazz recording on CD that the label ever did. Ending the album on a poignant note is a track from Mongo Santamaria and his all-star band, which was culled from the very last Studio A session recorded before the famed facility shut its doors on April 1, 1993. Long revered for its wonderful acoustics, New York's Studio A hosted sessions by all the greats in its day, including Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone and Leonard Bernstein, among many others. In addition, countless Broadway cast albums and film scores were cut there. | |
Chesky Records began recording its artists at the landmark site in 1988 and continued up until the studio closed.
