Hybrid Disc Ana Caram Blue Bossa [SACD226]
| |
Hailed as one of the most important contemporary Brazilian musicians, singer/guitarist Ana Caram has earned much admiration and respect over the years for her unique blending of sensual bossa novas and swinging sambas. Her beautiful and captivating renditions of the beloved songs of her late friend and mentor, the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim, have blessed listeners worldwide. On Blue Bossa Ana Caram gives a retrospective musical perfomance in celebration of the brilliant marriage between Brazilian song and America's "cool jazz". The result? A very cool glimpse into the Bossa Nova scene of a 1960's jazz club. Creating an intimate atmosphere, Ana continues to reinterpret those classic, unforgettable songs of the late Jobim, while also performing songs from other renowned Brazilian composers such as Ivan Lins ("Anjo De Mim") and Baden Powell ("Só Por Amor"). The force behind Ana's soothing, exotic voice features Paulo Levi on sax, Cliff Korman on fender rhodes piano, David Fink on bass, Nelson Faria on guitar and Paulo Braga on drums. Featruring five new Jobim arrangements, including the classic "Desafinado", the mysterious "Corcovado" and the dreamy "Triste". The inevitable influence that Jazz has on Brazilian music can be heard on the title track "Blue Bossa", a tribute to one of the great trumpet voices of the bebop era - Kenny Dorham. Downbeat called Ana "a sparkling Brazilian singer and guitarist", while Jazziz said "she possesses an unusual kind of vocal power that carries a great deal of intensity".
