Tango Bar
| |||
With its inherent sensuality and sexual overtones, it is no wonder that the Tango has created intrigue throughout the world. Bandoneonist arranger and music director Raul Jaurena, bandoneonist Tito Castro, violinists Leonardo Suarez and Humberto Ridolfi, bassist Pablo Aslan, pianist Allison Brewster Franzetti and vocalist Washington Galli, recreate the sultry scene from the tango bars of 1930's Argentina, beautifully capturing the essence of tango with elegance and panache. Washington Galli, the singer, epitomizes the style of tango singing, adjusting to the pulsating, underlying rhythm, while manifesting freedom of phrasing and interpretation, as can be heard on "Whisky," "Comos Dos Exraños" and the graceful "Por Una Cabeza." The mysteriously breathtaking "Tanguera," an all-instrumental track, is accentuated by the lovely melodic phrasing between the bandoneon and piano, while the strings softly layer a pizzicato background rhythm. This album was co produced by Grammy-award winning producer Carlos Franzetti who is known for his acclaimed work on The Central Park Concert (JD107), Portraits of Cuba (JD145) and The Unknown Piazzolla (CD190) to name but a few. |
