Following his previous solo CD for Cala Records, Blackwattle Caprices, Jacob Cordover presents an album of some of the most well-known and best loved guitar repertoire, particularly from the masters of the Spanish guitar and their Latin American counterparts. He also includes some solo guitar arrangements of favourite modern popular songs.Jacob Cordover guitar Currently residing in Barcelona, Spain and enjoying a truly international career as both a concert and recording artist, Jacob Cordover has appeared as soloist with the Las Colinas Symphony, the Arlington Symphony, the Garland Symphony, the Orquestra Simfonica de Balears Ciutat de Palma and the Orchestra dell'Accademia 1'Ottocento". He has released two solo CDs: Stele (independent release, 2004), and Blackwattle Caprices (Cala Records, 2013); and two CDs with his long standing chamber ensembles: Songs from the Forest, (independent release, 2012) the debut CD from the Australian Guitar Duo (with Rupert Boyd), and Historias (Cala Records, 2014) the debut CD from Zoco Duo (with Laura Karney, oboe/cor anglais). He regularly performs repertoire from a wide lange of musical periods. His enthusiasm for contemporary music has brought about a number of world premieres, including works for solo guitar and guitar chamber music, by composers from countries including Australia, England, Norway, Spain and Canada. A strong interest in the application of appropriate performance practice of 19th-century music has led to numerous performances of this repertoire on a variety of period guitars, including Mauro Giuliani's First Guitar Concerto at the Festival 800 Sardegna (Italy) on an original Gaetano Guadagnini guitar from 1814. Aside from his formative studies at the Australian National University School of Music with renowned performer and pedagogue Timothy Kain, he completed post-graduate studies at the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya with Laura Young and at the Escola Luthier with Arnaldur Arnarson in Barcelona. He studied 19th-century performance practice with Carlo Barone at the Academia 1'Ottocento in Paris and undertook several long-term residencies at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada. Masterclasses with Sergio Assad, Manuel Barrueco, Ricardo Gallen, Paul O'Dette, Pavel Steidi, Geoffrey Simon, Geoffrey Lancaster, Nicholas Daniel, Edgar Meyer and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi amongst others, have also been influential in the development of his playing. His music has been broadcast on radio and television and he has been a prize-winner at major national and international music competitions including the Concurso Internacional de Guitarra Festival de Cordoba (Spain), the Sydney Performing Arts Challenge (Australia), the Australian Guitar Competition (Chamber Music Section), the Certamen Internacional de Guitarra de Barcelona (Spain) and the Performing Australian Music Competition (London, UK). Jacob is grateful for all the generous support he has received over the years from artsACT, Arts Tasmania, Australia Council for the Arts, Australian Music Foundation, Australian National University Friends of the School of Music, the lan Potter Cultural Trust and Arts Global. | |
