The London Sound The London Sound began with The London Cello Sound, which brought together the cello sections of four of the great London orchestras, 40 cellos in all. There are now 14 London Sound releases, in what has become Cala Records' most unique and successful signature series. The Brass element of The London Sound started when Cala challenged the trombone sections of seven of the leading London orchestras to record virtuoso arrangements of well-loved music, classical and popular. There was instant camaraderie amongst the musicians, who inspired each other with their talent and creativity. The London Trombone Sound was the result—rich, supple and beguiling. The London Horn Sound followed, and became the best-selling horn CD ever. The London Trumpet Sound also hit the spot, and The London Horn Sound returned, for the Give It One album and The Sound of Music Jazz Suite. Cool Brass and Hot Brass are themed collections, each over 70 minutes in duration, from the popular music in the The London Sound Brass releases. The leaders of the London trumpet, French horn and trombone fraternities revel in their shared panache and virtuosity — mellow and chilled in Cool Brass — high energy in Hot Brass. London's richness as a musical capital ensures that exceptional players such as these are supported by world-class arrangers and composers. The two discs present 23 imaginative arrangements of popular standards and 6 especially commissioned original numbers. The music ignited our performers, as we trust it will do for audiences in Great Briatin and around the world. Geoffrey Simon Artistic Director and Conductor |
