Otto Ernst Gregorius Schieferlein Georg Philipp Telemann | Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach PALLADE MUSICA Tanya LaPerrière, violin | Elinor Frey, cello Esteban La Rotta, lute | Mélisande McNabney, harpsichord ACD2 2744 Baroque ensemble Pallade Musica offers a glimpse into the world of Otto Ernst Gregorius Schieferlein, a German Baroque composer. Precious little is known of Schieferlein. He was born in 1704, in Buxtehude, a city near Hamburg, where he died on in 1787. Among the few works that have been attributed to Schieferlein are a wedding cantata, and the three trio sonatas that are recorded here for the first time. They have survived in an 18th-century manuscript copy from the library of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Pallade Musica’s second ATMA recording also includes works by G. P. Telemann and C. P. E. Bach. Pallade Musica (Athena’s Music) brings together four of Montreal's most promising Early Music performers. Grand Prize winners at the 2012 Early Music America Baroque Performance Competition in New York and 2nd prize winners in the 2014 International Van Wassenaer Competition in Utrecht, the quartet consists of Tanya LaPerrière, Baroque violin, Elinor Frey, Baroque cello, Esteban La Rotta, theorbo, and Mélisande McNabney, harpsichord. Based on dedicated research and continuous exploration, Pallade Musica’s performances are acclaimed for their expressive and elegant interpretations, earning praise for their spectacular virtuosity (Tom Strini Blog) and tremendous ensemble sense (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).
