JOHANNES BRAHMS CHANTS D’AMOUR Kimy McLaren, soprano | Michèle Losier, mezzo-soprano Pascal Charbonneau, tenor | Alexandre Sylvestre, bass baritone Myriam Farid & Olivier Godin, piano ACD2 2710 • Completed in 1869, the first collection of Liebeslieder-Walzer, Op. 52 became a great hit after Brahms and Clara Schumann performed as accompanists at the premiere of his arrangement for singers and four-hand piano.   These 18 love songs for mixed vocal quartet and four hands piano pay homage to the city of Vienna.   In 1874, Brahms went on to write a sequel, the 15 Neue Liebeslieder-Walzer Op. 65. • Generally simple and concise, at times serious or cheerful, dark or luminous, these songs are all waltzes.   Not all are for four voices, however; some call for one or two soloists, or contrast one vocalist to the three others. • Kimy McLaren made her stage debut with Opéra National du Rhin and has performed extensively worldwide and accrued a formidable and widely diverse repertoire comprised of opera, concert, recital and musical theatre. • Critically acclaimed French-Canadian mezzo-soprano Michèle Losier captivates opera audiences around the world with her rich voice, masterful musicality and stupendous stage presence. • Canadian tenor Pascal Charbonneau studied at McGill University, followed by advanced studies at the Guidlhall School of Music in London and the Atelier Lyrique de Lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal. • Bass baritone Alexandre Sylvestre, originally from Lanaudière, Québec has been heard on the Canadian and American operatic stages for the past 10 years.
