Montreal, October 29, 2013 — At just 13 years old, the Quebecois pianist Daniel Clarke Bouchard is already a sensation on the Montreal music scene.   ATMA Classique presents Scenes d’fenfants, his tailor-made debut solo recording, featuring music by Mendelssohn, Debussy, Haydn and Chopin.

The hugely talented Clarke Bouchard is also a jazz enthusiast and joins his mentor - jazz great, Oliver Jones - on two jazz-inspired tracks performed on two pianos: an improvisation on Mozart's Ah vous dirai-je maman variations, and Claude Leveillee's Grande valse fofolle, a piece the two performed live at the 2012 Francofolies de Montrèal.

“This young man will go far, let me tell you!   I began piano lessons at age 3, so I understand what it's like to be a child prodigy,” said Oliver Jones.   “It's obvious that he has phenomenal technique, but what fascinates me is the maturity he demonstrates in his interpretations of classical music.   He is quite literally, an old soul in a child's body,” he said.

In 2011, Daniel Clark Bouchard won first prize in his age category at the Concours de musique du Canada, and also won scholarships from Yamaha, Canimex and Gilles Chatel.   As the first prize winner of the Bradshaw and Buono International Competition, he was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City.   Last Feburary, he appeared as soloist with l'Orchestre Métropolitain, and joined the orchestra again on November 27, 2013 under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Théâtre Outremont.

In an interview with André Ducharme for Actualité, Daniel Clarke Bouchard described his dreams for the future : “I see myself becoming an entertainer in New York when I'm 22,” he said, “a singer and musician, ideally an actor; and I'd like to host my own TV show.”   Asked about his choice of repertoire, he added, “I like to play what musicians my age don't play.   I prefer to be good in a little-known piece rather than extremely good in one that's too popular.”
