Haydn Arias Jane Archibald soprano Orchestre Symphonique Bienne Thomas Rösner conductor ACD2 2664 • Haydn Arias features Canadian soprano Jane Archibald in her first solo recording.   She sings excerpts from Joseph Haydn's operas Orlando Paladino, Il mondo della luna and L'isola disabitata.   Miss Archibald is accompanied by the Orchestre Symphonique Bienne of Switzerland, conducted by Thomas Rösner.   This is ATMA's second recording with this orchestra, following the 2009 CD Schindler's List ACD2 2579. • Jane Archibald's artistry is generating excitement across Europe and North America with engagements including Rosina in Geneva, Lucia in Berlin and Zurich, Zerbinetta and Konstanze at the Bavarian State Opera Munich, Zerbinetta, Cleopatra and Olympia at the Opéra National de Paris, Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) at La Scala Milan, Zerbinetta at the Baden-Baden Festival with Christian Thielemann and Renée Fleming, and Zerbinetta at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. • Coming home to Canada, Jane Archibald looks forward to engagements with the Canadian Opera Company for Zerbinetta in April and May 2011 and she will also perform the title role in the COC's production of Handel's Semele during the 2011/12 season. • Thomas Rösner has been the chief conductor of the OSB since 2005.   The orchestra was founded in 1969.   Its activities centre on its series of symphony concerts in Bienne, and is regularly invited to perform outside Switzerland, as in 2008.
