WORKS FOR WIND BY GRANT - CHAN MACDONALD - LEMAY & GOUGEON Quintette à vent Estria ACD2 2357 The Estria Woodwind Quintet gets its name from its home region of the Eastern Townships of Quebec (Canada) or l'Estrie where it was founded in 1997. Estria's members are all accomplished musicians who hold diplomas in music performance from Le Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal and McGill University, and who have established performing and teaching careers within the cities of Montréal and Sherbrooke, Quebec. In addition to performing repertoire from the Classical and Romantic periods, Estria has a strong dedication to the music of our time and, to date, it has commissioned and premiered over a dozen new Canadian works for woodwind quintet. A native of Sherbrooke, Canada, Catherine Meunier began her percussion studies at age 12. On June 9, 2000, she became the first percussionist to win the Prix d'Europe, and with a unanimous jury decision. She was also awarded the Canadian Music Centre Prize for the best interpretation of a Canadian piece in 2000.
