Triptych was recorded at Saint Joseph’s Oratory. The building itself, with its magnificent dome, overlooks Mont Royal – from which the city of Montreal derives its name. The main basilica situated at the peak of the structure, boasts a reverberation time of over 5 seconds and is almost two football fields in length! All of these background elements influenced Julian Wachner for the composition of this Triptych for Organ and Large Orchestra. The Concerto for Clarinet was composed in the summer of 2002 for Mark Margolies and the Quincy Symphony Orchestra. The work was dedicated to composer Lukas Foss as part of his 80th birthday celebrations. Julian Wachner is one of North America’s most exciting and versatile musicians, sought after as conductor, composer, and keyboard artist. In his new position as the inaugural Director of Music and the Arts at Trinity Wall Street, Wachner serves as Principal Conductor of the Trinity Choir, Trinity Baroque Orchestra, and of NOVUS NY, the contemporary music orchestra in residence at Trinity Wall Street. This appointment complements his existing roles as Music Director of the Kennedy Center’s GRAMMY® Award-winning Washington Chorus and as Principal Conductor of Opera McGill, Montreal.
