The viola da gamba duo Les Voix Humaines discovered the French composer Pierre Bouteiller (ca1655-1717), thanks to the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, which regularly publish the more obscure gems of French music. The present recording includes, in addition to the “Missa pro defunctis,” Pierre Bouteiller's Motets for voice, two bass viols, and continuo, confirming that fact that viols were indeed happily coupled with the human voice in French repertoire. Well-known Canadian soprano Suzie LeBlanc and the Belgian tenor Stephan van Dyck are joined by Susie Napper, Margaret Little, and Mélisande Corriveau, violas da gamba, Alexander Weimann, harpsichord, and Sylvain Bergeron, theorbo.
