6 SONATAS OPUS 51 BY BOISMORTIER: FRENCH GOLD
I
ndeed, if the better portion of Boismortier's output can be likened to an ingot, then his Opus 51 stands out as an enviable nugget.   These six sonatas, written specifically for a transverse flute and a violin mostly playing chords, are quite unique in the general repertory and fine enough within Boismortier's abundant and erratic body of work to be worth more than a moment's notice.   But first, who was this musician about whom more ill than good has been said in the past?

The son of a confectioner, Joseph Bodin de Boismortier was born in 1689 in Thionville. in the Lorraine region of France.
