THE CHAPEL OF HOPE
S
ince July 22, 1996, a fire burns permanently to commemorate victims of AIDS.   This chapel is an extension of the park of the same name located on the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Panet Streets.   This present disc is dedicated to all who are living with and who have succombed to AIDS.
          “Everything opens onto the sea
and spreads out until sight is out of breath.
From the greatest depths emerges each wave
          like a secular chant.”

          Marie Uguay   L'outre-vie [3]

THE INSTRUMENT
A
first instrument of 23 stops was installed in 1858 by master organ builder Samuel Warren.   In 1908, the Casavant brothers of Saint-Hyacinthe built a new organ with fifty-nine stops and four keyboards.   Eleven stops from the first instrument have preserved.   This grand English Romantic style organ remained intact until restored in 1994-1995 by the Maison Guilbault-Thérien.   This restoration attempted to preserve as much as possible the original character; the replacement of seven stops altered nothing essential, but discretely nuanced the sound quality.
