Musique slave Szymanowski, Janácek, Dvorak, Suk György Terebesi, violon/violin Michel Jean Fournier, piano ACD2 2178 On both sides of the Carpathian Mountains, at the turn of the 20th century, the violin repertoire experienced an exceptionally rich blossoming. In Bohemia, Anton Dvorak and, to a lesser extent Joseph Suk, wrote for this instrument works that were soon to become staples of the repertoire. Less famous than Dvorak, the Moravian composer Leos Janacek has left the stamp of his personality - as engaging as it is un-classifiable - on the pages he wrote for this instrument. Meanwhile, on the other side of the mountain range, Karol Szymanowski was treading the paths of Richard Strauss and Skriabin, later evolving a personal language in which the violin was always to hold a privileged position.
