Johann Pachelbel Régis Rousseau à l'orgue Wolff de l'église St. John the Evangelist, Montréal ACD2 2173 Pachelbel's name is well known amongst music lovers, thanks to a large extent by the popularity of one of his chamber works - the famous Canon.   Apart from his compositions he is only really known through the various appointments he held during his life and by the glowing reports of his contemporaries.   No autograph manuscript, portrait or even description of him has survived to give us more of an idea of the man he was. It is thus interesting to observe that in his day Pachelbel was primarily recognised for his skills as an organist and that he was one of the first masters of the organ school of central Germany which also includes J.S.
