Founded in Montreal in 1993, Quasar (formerly the Nouveau quatuor de saxophones du Québec) is a saxophone quartet devoted mainly to new music. They have played in concerts and at festivals throughout Canada in Montreal, Jonquière, Ottawa, and Calgary and their performances are recorded regularly for broadcast by Radio-Canada. They have also performed in Rotterdam, Valencia and in Paris where they joined forces with the ensemble of the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (Festival Presence/Radio-Prance). The quartet has received several grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and from the Canada Council for the Arts. Passionate about the music of their time, the quartet has been involved in the creation and promotion of Canadian works since 1993.
